Dr Tan Pei Yong

Consultant Paediatrician MBBS (IMU), MRCPCH (UK)

Dr Tan Pek Yong graduated with a Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery from the International Medical University in 2005. Upon completing his houseman training at Hospital Pulau Pinang, he served the community of Bayan Baru at Klinik Kesihatan Bayan Baru.

Dr Tan subsequently joined the Paediatrics Department of Hospital Pulau Pinang as a medical officer rotating through various sub-speciality training. He was awarded the “Anugerah Perkhidmatan Cemerlang” by the Ministry of Health Malaysia in 2009 and again in 2014 for his excellent service.

He successfully became a member of the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health (United Kingdom) in 2015.

Prior to joining Penang Adventist Hospital, Dr Tan served as a General Paediatrician at Hospital Tengku Ampuan Afzan in Kuantan, Pahang. Subsequently, he was transferred to serve in a similar capacity at the Hospital Pulau Pinang.

His areas of interest include neonatology, child growth and development, asthma management, as well as paediatric nephrology where he has spent most of his time in service taking care of such patients. He was the specialist in charge of nephrology unit in Hospital Pulau Pinang prior to joining Penang Adventist Hospital.

Dr Tan has given numerous poster presentations at medical meetings and is an avid clinical researcher in the field of paediatric health care. He is a trainer and facilitator for Quality Assurance (Hospital Specific Approach), and also conducts training for Neonatal Resuscitation Programme (NRP) and Paediatric Asthma Workshop. Dr Tan has been actively involved in teaching as a clinical lecturer at RCSI-UCD Medical College (previously known as PMC).

Dr Tan is a life member of the Malaysian Medical Association (MMA) and he is a committee member of the Penang branch MMA. On top of that, he is also a provider of Breast Feeding Promotion and Support, Paediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), and Advanced Paediatrics Life Support (APLS).
